Meet Chris Alvarado

With over 25 years of experience, I’ve been immersed in the world of improv, performing, and training at some of the most respected institutions in the country, including Second City in Chicago and L.A., UCB LA, iOWest, Westside Comedy Theater, and most recently, The Clown School.

Currently, I perform with the acclaimed improv teams Heyday and Pretty Pretty Pony at Westside Comedy Theater, as well as with my experimental groups, The Live Direct Show and Organism. Alongside performing, I coach improv teams and guide performers of all levels toward finding their voice, taking creative risks, and deepening connections within their teams.

I created the Chris Alvarado Improv Workshops as a space for exploration, experimentation, and meaningful growth. These workshops move beyond traditional rules and rigid conventions, helping performers discover their unique comedic style and uncover inspiration from within. Whether you’re a seasoned improviser or stepping into improv for the first time, my classes offer a collaborative, supportive environment to push boundaries, hone your skills, and create something unforgettable.

When I'm not teaching, coaching, or performing improv, you can find me surfing at Venice Beach with my comedy buddies or hanging with my wife and playing with our best boy, Sonny.
